CANADIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM 

  • The education system in Canada includes elementary, middle, and post-secondary schooling. School-age students are required to attend school at least until the age of 16 in all provinces. For Manitoba, Ontario and New Brunswick, students must attend school until the age of 18. Kindergarten is for children ages 4 and older in Ontario and Quebec, while in other provinces it is for children ages 5 and older.

    One school year runs from May 8 to May 6 of the following year. Post-secondary education systems are divided into: colleges or vocational training institutes and universities for students pursuing bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees.

    About 91 per cent of Canada’s population graduated from minimum high school. In addition, Canada leads the world in the proportion of adults with high levels of education (bachelor’s degree or higher), of which about 61% are between the ages of 25 and 34 with higher education. Among provinces and territories, British Columbia ranks first in the percentage of adults graduating from minimum high school, at 93 per cent.

    Annual tuition fees for undergraduate programs in Canada are lower than in the United States. The average annual tuition fee for an undergraduate program nationally for Canadians is CAD 6,838 for the 2018-2019 academic year.
